Junior Pastoral Care and Student Wellbeing

The classroom teacher is pivotal to the provision of pastoral care for every child in their Junior School Classroom.

From Kindy to Year 6, teachers seek to establish meaningful connections through which to model, teach and support each child’s social and emotional journey.

In addition to strong teacher student relationships and the explicit teaching of wellbeing attributes via in class Health lessons, the Junior School also engages in the vertical system of Pastoral Care Groups (PCG). Students of the same house meet regularly via Year 1 to 6 small groups. During this time, students further explore concepts of wellbeing through positive relationships with older and younger friends.

Communication

If any concerns of a pastoral care nature arise for a Junior School student, the Class Teacher is the first point of contact to explore the concern, and develop an appropriate plan of support.

Teachers work closely with parents and Fairholme College Wellbeing Coaches to develop strategies of support.
