Our committed, qualified and professional team of teaching, residential and medical staff, aim to provide the highest level of care and support and monitor the wellbeing of each individual Fairholme Boarder.
Being a Boarder can be a very rewarding experience in many ways. Living on campus gives convenient access to an extensive range of activities and facilities, enabling each boarding student the opportunity to experience a balanced involvement in the academic, spiritual, sporting and cultural life of the College.
There is also a strong sense of fraternity that is fostered amongst all of the Fairholme Boarders, with friendships being established that last a lifetime. The connections made across friendship groups and year levels, and the care and concern that the girls experience themselves from the staff and students, or give to others, are the valued extra that boarding at Fairholme provides.
All of these experiences nurture lifelong learning in each girl which is not left at the gate when she leaves at the end of her Fairholme journey, but enables her to flourish beyond school.
Our Catering Manager leads an experienced catering team who work tirelessly to ensure that our Boarders receive a variety of nutritious, delicious meals.
Each day the girls are served –
Our full-time chef and kitchen staff take a genuine interest in the girls and cook for them with health, nutrition and enjoyment in mind. Dishes are well thought out, sourced from local produce, and prepared to an exceptionally high standard. Fresh fruit is always available and special diets can be catered for.
During these critical years for your daughter’s growth and development, a well-balanced diet is extremely important. The dining room menu is reviewed each week by Boarding and Catering Staff in order to add variety, meet the changing seasons, and to ensure that your daughter receives the nutrition she needs.
The girls also have regular input through their Student Representative Committee and online feedback surveys.
At the end of each term, each year level enjoys choosing their favourite lunch or dinner meal for the ‘Boarders Choice’ week menu.
While Boarding at Fairholme, your daughter will be strongly encouraged to take advantage of the wide range of sporting and cultural pursuits on offer, participating in anything from swimming, athletics, kickboxing and dance, to chess, debating, drama and music.
Fairholme College has a wealth of opportunities and facilities that Boarders are welcome to enjoy, including a heated 25m lap pool, athletics equipment and oval, strength and conditioning gym, tennis courts and more.
Coaching is available for a variety of sports with Boarders also having access to morning fitness classes, as well as a variety of other activities carried out in the College Sports Centre.
The extensive College co-curricular program offers our Boarders a wide range of sports and activities to choose from and to enjoy with other girls throughout the week and on the weekend. Living on campus enables them to easily be involved and relieves parents of training and transport demands.
Each weekend the Boarding House also offers a wide range of physical recreational activities, either on campus or in the local Toowoomba area (though sometimes further), for the girls to enjoy. These can include park walks, trampolining, skating, and rock climbing to name a few.
During the week, the girls often take a relaxing walk/run together around the planned walking tracks in the streets close to the College, or simply join a group of girls and staff who head across the road to enjoy the play facilities and the fresh air at the park.
The more the girls are active and involved, the more they enjoy boarding life.
The girls attend the Boarding House Chapel service every Sunday evening during term time. These services are conducted by either the College Head of Faith and Wellbeing or the Head of Wellbeing - Boarding.
The girls are often involved in the planning and organisation, or take a special role, in the Service. The Boarding House also offer opportunities for girls of all ages to take part in weekly informal and relaxed Bible Study groups.
Our Wellbeing staff provide an additional source of ongoing support and care for the Boarders.
Weekend leave is a wonderful opportunity for you to spend time with your daughters.
For girls in residence, a recreational activities program is organised for each weekend during the term. This can include activities on or off campus, such as:
On Saturdays, girls may go shopping at Grand Central Shopping Centre for 2.5 hours, in uniform, with supervisors. Year 12s may wear civvies and stay until 1.30pm.
Special leave may be available to different year levels to visit the Mary and Bridge Street shops at various times over the weekend.
Visits to local parks and cafes can be organised on the day, depending on the requests from girls. Some activities such as Boarder socials and dinners are co-ordinated with other schools in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs area.
Each floor in the Boarding House has a large comfortable common area for the girls to socialise and relax. Common rooms are available for television watching, as well as movies on weekends.
For those who play music or dance, Boarders may practise in the Music Rooms and Dance Studio before and after school, and on weekends. Music lessons are available and occur during weekdays.
Fairholme College is underpinned by a strong Christian ethos of service and the joy of giving to others is demonstrated by numerous service contributions by the boarding students to their own and the wider community.
Five student committees operate in the Boarding House including a –
The committees work to enhance the boarding experience for all Fairholme Boarders. Boarders also have several opportunities throughout the year to contribute or volunteer towards a charity or community project that is important to them.
Service activities and events may include -
A large number of Year 12 Boarders often participate each year in ‘Shave for a Cure’, cutting their hair and raising much needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
