The College

Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Range escarpment in Australia's Garden City of Toowoomba, Fairholme College is one of Australia's leading independent girls' schools with more than eight hundred students from Kindy to Year 12 and over two hundred boarders form part of the total enrolment.

The Position

Position: Teacher of English (*ability to teach Senior English classes would be well-regarded)


Responsible To: Principal 


Reports To: Head of Teaching and Learning through Head of Department English


Key Functional Relationships:  Head of Teaching and Learning, Head of Department - English; Teachers; Students; Parents



The Person

We seek a committed, highly professional, and appropriately qualified teacher to take up a role in the English Department. Particularly, we seek a teacher with demonstrated ability and interest in teaching across Middle and Senior Schools for learners of all abilities, in the area of English (an ability to teach Senior English would be well-regarded).


The Teacher of English, under the direction of the Head of Department, will possess the required attributes, skills and disposition outlined in the three key areas outlined below:


1. Ethos And Culture

  • Support for and personal alliance with the College’s Christian values and ethos.
  • An active interest in, experience with, and/or support for the delivery of quality girls’ education.
  • Preparedness to undertake supervision of Prep (Boarder homework), engage positively and supportively as a Holme Group teacher, in extra-curricular activities and undertake other duties associated with the role of teacher; and
  • A clear experience with/ or interest in the specific needs of boarding students and their families and experience working with them in and out of the classroom.


2. Pedagogy

  • Be a passionate teacher, able to inspire students to stretch their learning capacity through a repertoire of diverse pedagogical strategies.
  • Be well-organised and innovative in approach to teaching and learning practices; and undertake timely processes and procedures in relation to reporting and assessment.
  • Support for and alignment with the relational pedagogy that underpins teaching and learning practices as well as a good working understanding of, and interest in restorative practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate curriculum to meet the needs of individual learners.
  • The ability to work with the College’s Learning Management System – Schoolbox, along with a willingness to utilise these frameworks to underpin and strengthen practices within the classroom setting is fundamental to the role.
  • A strong demonstrated engagement and currency in relevant personal professional learning. 
  • Be a positive and engaged member of the English Department – someone who enjoys working collaboratively towards best learning outcomes for students. 


3. Knowledge/Qualifications

  • Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers and tertiary qualifications relevant to both subject areas. 
  • Demonstrated experience teaching English subjects.
  • Currency and proficiency with QCAA syllabi and practices, including experience with current confirmation and endorsement processes.
  • Working knowledge of and confidence with the Australian Curriculum.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with work colleagues, and to communicate clearly and enthusiastically with staff, students, and families.

Workplace Health and Safety

As a member of the College, the successful applicant is required to follow all workplace, health and safety requirements that include but are not limited to:

  • Adherence to and working knowledge of policy requirements;
  • Cooperation with audit, professional learning and training/drill processes;
  • Meticulous attention to reporting responsibilities and record-keeping obligations in relation to all workplace, health and safety matters.



The Package

The appointment is currently under the conditions of the Fairholme College Certified Agreement and will attract proportional time release and remuneration.
